By the way...

In case you haven't noticed from the pictures, the weather here is awesome. Take that Alaska and Washington!!! :D

Tours, France. End of Week 1.

These pictures include some of the best castles in the WORLD!!! And of course, how does one properly celebrate the best castles in the world? By drinking a bottle of wine made from grapes grown at the castle from which you just visited. Thank you, Will, for this glorious demonstration. ENJOY!!!

For those of you who care about titles, we visited: Chateaux: Amboise (the one with the delicious wine. Did I mention free tastings?), Villandry (the one with the super ornate gardens), Clos Lucé (Leonardo DaVinci's pad), Chenonceaux (the one above the MOAT!!!), et Rideau.

Goodbye Paris!

Well, after 4 nights, 5 days, 429 metro rides and 38 miles walked, we are heading out by train to the quaint town of Tours. It's time for castles!!!! A few things we learned so far:
1. Street signs are more suggestions than law.
2. Cops come in 3 and you don't F with the Eiffel Tower (they carry machine guns)
3. They put the "nun" in conundrum.
4. There are nowhere near enough crepes.
5. You can save millions (yes, millions) by buying food from grocery stores instead of eating out
6. For God's sake (and your partners') sniff your cheese before buy it!

See you in Tours. Paris, you've been a wily mistress.

Paris, Day 2

Okay, so we're actually posting this about ten minutes after the last one, but a new day deserves its own space.

I don't even know where to begin! We started the day by drinking coffee and eating croissants while conversing with our fellow hostel mates from Slovenia (Super cool people by the way). After staring at the shower head long enough to figure out how it worked, we finally cleansed away the past two days' worth of grime and started out so fresh and so clean clean.

Off to the metro...to the Louvre! We got off at les Jardins de Tuileries where we saw everything from "scary" statues, beautiful fountains and people straight up making out in the park. It's Paris...love is in the air here!

After I finally got a new pair of sunglasses (mine broke on the plane) we toured le musee for a grand total of 9 euros. Saw statues. Saw la Jaconde. Saw lots of paint. Lots of people. We even saw Jesus. About a thousand of him.

Did we mention that its big? Sorry, I don't mean big. I mean FRICKING HUGE!!!!! (Almost as big as Will's house....) We saw about 1/16th of it and it took us nearly 5 hours.

So after that, we walked around the park, exhausted again, until we found a couple of leany chairs to sit on. Yep, we slept on those too (Quickly becoming a common theme). When we came to, we needed to find food and walk along the river Seine. Just so happened that on the way, we paid a visit to Notre Dame (which I just found out meant "Our Lady"...whatever) and got a couple neat-o pictures (which will be up soon, I swear). Then we found a sweet cafe and had onion soup (automatically French due to our location :) ) and cafe au lait (which Will totally thought was "Ole"...idiot) . Oh and there were some cool rollerbladers doing fancy skating.

So after our rejuvination, we headed toward le jardin de Louxembourg, but there were no lights, and we didn't feel like getting raped tonight... so we came back to the hostel and had some Guinesses. Good night.

The adventure begins

Okay, Mom(s) and Dad(s), we made it just fine. Our things didn't get stolen and we have not slept on the street (yet, though the park benches are rather comfy). How are you?

So yesterday turned out to be quite the zombie-fying adventure: we arrived in Paris around 7:40 AM, so we officially time warped ahead of you guys. It's a 9 or 10 hour difference, depending on which of us you gave birth to. Upon arrival, we figured out the metro system and hopped a train towards our hostel- The 3 Ducks (the name is actually in English). Funny thing about that, WE didn't find it, we just looked so lost that a strange Parisian pointed us in the right direction without us even asking. Then we ditched our bags and found a sweet cafe and had tons of coffee, as we were not allowed to go to our room at the time.

When we could get in, we crashed...hard. We're in a 2 bunk room, and luckily our roommates were not around to wake us up :). Anyway, after sleeping a bit, we hit the town and found a cool cemetary, of all places, and mosied a bit. This was our first encounter with a bench and sleeping on them. That's right. We crashed again. In a cemetary.

THEN, when it was dinner time, we went to a magical little restaurant, had a plate of cheese like the real French folk, and drank wine, again like the French do :). As we walked out of the restaurant, there was a crazy spotlight flashing around in the air. Upon inspection, it turned out to be some weird antenna or something- the locals here call it the Eiffel Tower. We were able to walk over to it, so we did, and it was amazing, especially at night, as it was glittering! Then we went to bed. End of day 1...insert disk for day 2.

OH! Still figuring out the picture business, but we'll be posting some as soon as we can upload more than one at a time.

Peace out.

Highest I've ever been

Jillian and I went hot-air ballooning this morning and got to catch a gorgeous glimpse of Snohomish, WA.  Best part was almost getting caught in a tree!
